Marketing Tips for Salon and Head Spa Owners: How to Grow Your Business Online and Attract Dream Clients

Running a salon and head spa is about more than just giving amazing services, it’s about being seen, found, and remembered by the people who need what you offer. Whether you’re brand new or have been in the game for a while, these marketing tips will help you grow your visibility and book more of your dream clients. A quote I learned a while ago is:

No one knows who you are until you tell them

and that has stuck with me ever since.

Create a Website That Works for You

Your website is your digital storefront. Even if most of your clients come through word of mouth, having a professional website builds trust and makes it easy for people to learn more about your services and book appointments. I built my own websites on WIX! I wouldn’t say it’s easy, but from someone who has no experience with this I was able to do a great job! Of course you can hire someone if that is what's best for you and your business.

Must-haves:

• Clear list of services and pricing

• Online booking system (clients want to book on their own time)

• High-quality photos of your space and work

• About page that shows your personality and expertise

• Contact info & location (They don’t want to search for too long to find how to contact you or where you are)

• Mobile-friendly design (This is a MUST, most people are using their phone to view your site!)

Get Found with Proper SEO

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is how people find you when they search for things like “head spa near me” or “best scalp treatments in (your city).” You don’t need to be a tech wizard, just focus on the basics.

Easy SEO tips:

• Use keywords like “head spa,” “scalp facial,” or “(your city) salon” naturally throughout your site

• Create a Google Business Profile (more on that below!)

• Write blogs or FAQ pages answering common client questions

• Make sure your website loads quickly and works well on phones

Use Instagram to Build Community

Instagram is still one of the best platforms for salons and spas. Your ideal clients are already scrolling, show them what makes your space special!

What to post:

• Before-and-afters of hair or scalp treatments

• Reels showing soothing head spa moments

• Product recommendations

• Client testimonials

• Tips for healthy hair and scalp

• Behind the scenes of your salon life

Don’t forget to use local hashtags (like #YourCitySalon) and geotags to reach people in your area!

Show Up on TikTok (I know this can be intimidating)

If you’re up for short-form video content, TikTok is a powerful way to go viral even for local businesses. Think of it as an extension of your brand’s vibe and a way to reach people who love self-care.

TikTok content ideas:

• Day in the life of a head spa owner

• Hair detox routines or scalp tips

• Time-lapse videos of relaxing treatments

• “POV” client experiences

• Busting myths about scalp care or hair health

Don’t worry about being perfect authenticity wins on this platform!

My biggest tip is don’t go crazy on the special effects editing and filters. Keep it simple!

Optimize Your Google Business Page

Google is often the first place people look when searching for a salon. Your Google Business Profile is free, easy to set up, and essential for local SEO.

Tips to optimize it:

• Keep your hours, address, and phone number updated

• Add high-quality photos of your space and services

• Collect and respond to reviews regularly

• Use the Q&A feature to answer common questions

Encourage happy clients to leave a review, it helps you show up higher in search results and builds credibility.

The most successful salons and head spas today are the ones that show up consistently online. You don’t need to be everywhere, just start with one or two platforms you feel good about, and build from there. With the right digital presence, you’ll attract clients who are excited to invest in their self-care and become loyal fans of your space!
